Launch & Direction

The Saudi Society of Linguistics (SSL) stemmed from the rapid developments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and from its Vision for 2030. Among the principles of Vision 2030, is the celebration of national identity and pride in “our cultural heritage and Saudi, Arab, and Islamic history”. The vision emphasizes the importance of conservation of cultural diversity, prominence of heritage, and promotion of the unique cultural depth of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Vision 2030, p. 17).

The Saudi Society of Linguistics (SSL) is also inspired by the vision of King Saud University, which aims for “Distinction in the construction of a society of knowledge,” and its mission “to produce creative research that serves society”. In particular, the SSL strives to achieve the first strategic aim of King Saud University, “Distinction in fields of specialty,” and the fifth strategic aim, “Building bridges of communication” through enrichment of linguistic studies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, the SSL represents the vision of the College of Arts to “Lead in the study of the humanities nationally, regionally, and internationally” and its mission to “Advance and promote humanities studies,” The SSL aims to achieve the goals of the college to “Improve the quality of theoretical and applied research and connecting them to society,” to “Build databases to serve theoretical and applied research,” and to “disseminate scientific research ethics and culture.”
